Setting Up An Online Course, Class, Tutorial, or Training Session

Teachers/Instructors setting up their course, class, tutorial, or training sessions on SchoolGenes can use any format they desire. Some assistance can be obtained by emailing the Hannaian I.T. Team at hri@hannaian.com, or by viewing open and available courses/classes already online at SchoolGenes.

Generally the class developer will first create a group to house the course/class and place the general information and links to important information under the Group General Description. Groups are created by clicking the "Courses/Groups" link on the general menu and then clicking on the "Create a new group" link. Open University Groups can not be "Featured Groups". Featured Groups are reserved for HRI Certified Courses unless a special arrangement is made with SchoolGenes administration.

The course/group can be developed initially as a draft before publishing, so that the instructor can more easily work on developing and integrating the course privately over time before making it publicly available by publishing it. This provides course developers with the option and important capability of working on the course, building and revising it within the SchoolGenes system, until fully ready for use by students. This drafting tool is one of special web publishing features of the Schoolgenes Platform.

After creating the Course/Group, the Course Syllabus/Outline can be placed in its own Group page with links to the various modules. Usually a well designed class will be organized in modules, each covering important sections of the course. These modules can be placed in their own individual group pages in the Group Page section of the Group. Links to each module should be placed in the Course Syllabus/Outline page. Other Group sections can be used to deliver other important parts of the class including discussions, blogs, photos, videos and other important functional needs of the class. For ease of use and increased facility the course developer should develop the written copy of the text needed for the class in a word processor such as Microsoft word and transfer them by cutting, copying and pasting them into the various sections of the Group as needed.

Students can be admitted to enroll in the Course/Class/Training Session Group either by invitation, upon their request to join, or by setting the group permissions function to open which allows any registrant of SchoolGenes to join on their own.
